Bridesmaids Share Their Worst Bridezilla Story

The Knot

The wrath of a bride-to-be is truly one of a kind, and understandably so.

Weddings are extremely stressful for everyone involved, but especially for the bride. Because anything could go wrong, shehas to be blunt and assertive with her demands. I mean, you wouldn't want to drop thousands of dollars on a wedding ceremony only to find that the tablecloths show up the wrong color, either.

Still, there are some brides who sometimes take things a little bit too far. Real bridesmaids from around the world shared some of their worst bridezilla tales, from brides demanding gifts and firing their best friends to even stabbing their grooms with a fork. Check out these absolutely cringe-worthy bridezilla stories:

16 Bridesmaids? That's Got To Be A New Record

She asked 16 girls to be her bridesmaids.16.

Easy Weddings

In the year that passed between the engagement and wedding, all but six dropped out, and three of them were her own sisters. She was just too demanding — she wanted different shades of blue and unique styles of dress for each bridesmaid. She expected everyone to pay for a week-long bachelorette party in Vegasandto cover her share, then got mad when some people opted out.

Her parents gave her a $20,000 budget and she ended up spending $100,000. She demanded that they pay for the extra costs, so they took out a loan and are still paying it off. She wanted everyone to have the same shade of hair so she asked the two blonde bridesmaids to dye theirs, but they declined. She also paid nothing for the bridesmaids… Traditionally, brides pay for something, whether it's the hair, or the makeup, or the dresses. Since she didn't, the bridesmaids were responsible for purchasing the specific shoes, jewelry, and dresses that she picked out. The total costs for the wedding—not including a gift—were well over $2,000 per bridesmaid.

The final straw for me was when she demanded to see my toast a month prior so she could edit it. She ended up rewriting it entirely.

I skipped the wedding and ended our friendship. They did end up getting married and six years later he seems absolutely miserable.

No, You Cannot Have A Baby When I'm Getting Married

I was almost stuck in a bridezilla's wedding. I had an ectopic pregnancy, which means my baby was attached to my tube and caused it to burst. I almost bled to death.

Fafifotography

She got engaged shortly following my episode. When she asked me to be her bridesmaid, she told me that I would have to wait until after her wedding to try for another baby. Her reasoning? She didn't want me to be fat at the ceremony.

Also, because of my previous pregnancy, she said she didn't want me to lose another child and steal her thunder on her wedding day. I was so shocked when she said that. I didn't go to her wedding and have not spoken to her since.

This Bride Treated Her Friend Like An Unpaid Intern

My best friend was getting married and she's very frugal, so I figured she was going to have a reasonable wedding and bachelorette party. I had shared my monetary concerns with her, too. I worked part-time and went to school, so I didn't have many vacation days to take. She didn't have that many friends so she only had two bridesmaids in total, myself being one of them.

Universal Pictures

She asked us to make ALL of her decorations for the wedding by hand. I must have put in 15 hours a week making her decorations. She also planned a week-long bachelorette party out of town and asked us to foot the bill.

Then there were our dresses. I wanted to find something affordable but she picked designer dresses that we had to pay for… I never even wore it again and I'm still trying to sell it online. I spent nearly a thousand dollars on the whole ordeal.

I just felt largely unappreciated. We're no longer friends because we ended up working together after the wedding and she tried to get me fired. It all makes me very reluctant to agree to be in someone's wedding again.

I'm Sorry, What?

I didn't make it to the wedding.

Universal Pictures

I was best friends with her and we literally did everything together. But when she assembled her wedding party, she didn't ask me to be a part of it. I found out later that I wasn't asked because I was overweight and her mother thought that would limit the bridesmaid dress choices and throw the wedding photos off.

At least I know I dodged a bullet.

From Maid Of Honor To Usher

I was the maid of honor and basically helped the bride plan the whole wedding. The whole time we were planning, she kept saying how she would inevitably go through a bridezilla phase. At the time, I just laughed it off as a joke…

Games Radar

A few months before her wedding day, she suddenly decides that her sister was the only one who needed to be involved in the wedding planning. She said that I could still be her maid of honor, though. I thought to myself, sure, at least I won't have as many responsibilities.

Then, on the day of her bridal shower, she calls me and asks why I wasn't there. I explain to her that she never gave me a date (which was the truth), but she kept insisting that she did. She fires me on the spot.

I don't talk to her again until a few days before the wedding. She says I can still come, but also says she had asked one of her husband's ex-girlfriends — someone she didn't know — to be her new maid of honor.

The day before the wedding she asks me to be an usher. She says I can show people to their seats, the gift table, the bathroom, etc. I didn't attend the wedding.

Suffer For Fashion?

I was part of a wedding where the bride planned two separate bachelorette weekends for herself and got mad at anyone who wouldn't spend the $500 to attend. But that's not even the worst part.

A Practical Wedding

The week leading up to the wedding, the weather forecast showed that the temperature was going to be a frigid 10 F. The bride insisted on taking photos outside without coats because she didn't want to hide the dresses. Everyone, including the photographer, was absolutely against it. On the day of her wedding, she pitched a fit when we refused to do more than one quick photo.

Soon after her wedding, she stopped talking to most of her bridal party. To this day, she still complains about how her bridesmaids ruined her wedding.

This Bridezilla Missed Out On The Birthday Cake

There were a lot of terrible moments, but one moment in particular really stands out.

Evening Standard

Her bachelorette party was on the same weekend as my birthday. We weren't allowed to do anything for my birthday for the entire trip. We weren't even allowed to even mention it. On my actual birthday, some of the girls got balloons and a little cake from the hotel. They tried to keep it a secret. But bridezilla came into the room, saw everything, didn't say a word, and walked out.

It was fitting that the wedding ended in a huge family drama. I stopped talking to her after it was all over.

This Sounds Like A Soap Opera

I'm a wedding planner and I've seen some pretty crazy stuff. One time, a bride invited her ex-boyfriend to her wedding, claiming that he was "just a really good friend." At the reception, while her husband was in the bathroom, and she plants a kiss on her ex. She noticed that I witnessed everything and promptly reminded me to mind my own business.

ABC

At the end of the night, the caterer informed me that they hadn't settled their bill. If they didn't get the payment that night, there would be an additional fee charged to the bride and groom. I run outside and let them know before they drive off. Two days later, I get a call from the groom who informs me that the bride is extremely upset with my "lack of professionalism" and wants a refund. She wasn't happy that I "made a scene" by running outside to tell them about the bill, in an effort to save them from additional charges. I asked him if he was aware that she kissed her ex-boyfriend on the dance floor while he went to the bathroom. He hung up.

Wait, They're Still Friends?

The bride insisted that her bridesmaids make all the decorations for the wedding, and so they did… However, she wasn't pleased with what they had made. She said that the decorations were not up toher standards.

NBC

The bridesmaids only had a month before the wedding to make everything because the bride had procrastinated on the whole thing. She didn't delegate tasks until it was too late — she even wanted to plan the bridal shower herself because she thought we were incompetent.

The bachelorette party is a whole other story. We went to a fancy restaurant and the bride made a scene because she was mad at her little sister for only eating the "simple" foods on the menu. "We should have just went to McDonald's," she blurted out.

To this day, she still complains about how horrible her wedding was. And she's right — it was not a good time and I myself don't want to have a wedding after being a part of that disaster.

Love A Good Passive Aggressive Text

My best friend recently got married. The day after her wedding, she texts me sarcastically, saying, "Thank you for the wedding gift you never got me." I had planned to get her a present with my next paycheck, but after receiving that text, I was so shocked that I didn't even care anymore.

Blue Ridge Floral

I spent $800 on the dress, alterations, shoes, nails, makeup, hair and hotel room to be in her wedding. It felt like all she cared about was gifts.

Does She Think Money Grows On Trees?

My best friend expected me to spend over $2,000 on her bachelorette party. She had planned for the bridal party to fly to a resort that wasn't all-inclusive.

Universal Pictures

She and most of her friends are in their 30s so that amount of money might have been nothing to them, but there was no way I, a 25-year-old who had just started her career, could pull that off on top of everything I had already spent just being in her wedding.

It's Your Baby Or My Wedding

I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks after my best friend set her wedding date. She had asked me beforehand to hold off on trying to get pregnant until after her wedding, which was ridiculous. When I told her I was pregnant and that my due date was six days before the wedding, she got incredibly angry at me and held it over me for my entire pregnancy. She ended up uninviting me to the wedding, which was especially harsh since I was supposed to be her maid of honor.

Ever After Guide

Her grandmother also died around the same time I got pregnant, so I think that just made her mood worse and she took her anger out on me even more. Surprisingly, our friendship actually survived the ordeal and she has since apologized for treating me unfairly. She is now trying to get pregnant, despite the fact that our other best friend is getting married soon and we're both in the wedding.

These Tablecloths Are Holding Up The Wedding

The bride started crying because the tablecloths were the wrong shade of purple. She thought the whole wedding was ruined. Nevermind the fact that she was marrying a nice man and all her friends and family had flown in for the wedding. The tablecloths were the wrong shade, so clearly nothing mattered anymore. We spent an hour consoling her and fixing up her makeup, while the guests waited.

Don't Kill The Messenger…

I was the maid of honor. The bride's mom was going to give her away on her big day. During the ceremony, she requested that I be the one to inform her mother that she wasn't going to walk down the aisle with her anymore. This was literallyfive minutes before the ceremony began. I refused to do it so she got someone else to. The rest was downhill.

Straight Hair, Don't Care? No, She Cares

I was a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding. She's typically very high-strung, so all of the wedding planning she was doing ended up throwing her over the top. When we were getting ready for the big day, the hairdresser was trying to curl my hair but nothing would work. I have extremely straight hair that can't keep a curl for anything. My sister started to cry, saying that I was ruining her wedding.

Hitched

My mom jumped in and got my hair to stay curled with half a bottle of hairspray. My sister then blamed me for ruining her makeup because she was crying about my hair.

I pray to God that she never gets married again!

Her Father Clearly Know's How To Pick 'Em

I recently attended my father's fifth wedding in August of this year. I was forced to be a bridesmaid. About 24 hours after the wedding, my new stepmother was screaming at me in front of the entire wedding party for not referring to her as my mother.

Chatelaine

Keep in mind, my real mother is very much alive and we are very close.

The Grooms Are Crazy Too

Not a bridezilla, but a groomzilla. My best friend had all of her bridesmaids spend the night with her in the hotel, and the groom did the same with his friends. After getting a little tipsy, I stepped out at around 3 a.m. to get some fresh air. That's when I saw him roll up in a car with some strange girl. I also saw what looked like a kiss, but I couldn't be sure. Obviously, I didn't say anything… I was not about to start drama at my best friend's wedding.

Brides

Three months later, his wife got pregnant. He left her for the woman I saw in the car that night.

Is This Supposed To Be A Joke?

When my friend was a bridesmaid, she received an astonishingly detailed itinerary of how to behave on the wedding day. There were notes like: "9:52 a.m.: Compliment the bride on how she looks on this most important day of her life."

Broadcasting Cable

On the day of the wedding, the bride repeatedly got angry with my friend for not adhering to the itinerary. They haven't spoken since the wedding day.

"It Was Just A Position"

I was asked to be the maid of honor for a friend's wedding. I had recently finished grad school but found out I was not chosen for a job I had applied for, so I told her I needed to prioritize my career. She ended up demoting me to a bridesmaid, saying, "It was just a position."

Racked

I later discovered that she had very high expectations for her bridesmaids. We met up again after the wedding to patch things up. She said, "If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing."

Let's just say that friendship dissolved quickly after that.

Sorry My Son Doesn't "Match" Your Wedding

I had to tailor a men's tie down a few sizes to fit my ten-year-old child. The bride refused to let him wear a child-sized one because it wouldn't "match."

Groomsmen Or Clean-up Crew?

The groom forced his groomsmen to clean up the mess after the ceremony. When we tried to hide and take a break, we got yelled at by the bride and her mother to keep working. Needless to say, I no longer talk to them.

A Heart Attack Couldn't Stop This Bride From Walking Down The Aisle

Just 30 minutes before the wedding ceremony, everyone found out that the groom's father had dropped dead of a heart attack back at the hotel. When the bride found out, she refused to go comfort her future husband because she didn't want him to see her in her wedding dress before the ceremony. The wedding proceeded as planned.

This Bride Still Held Onto Some Unspoken Feelings

My best friend since kindergarten was getting married to a guy who I had dated before. There were no hard feelings since they were a much better match, and I was already engaged to another man at the time anyway.

YouTube

I was the maid of honor at her wedding and one of her friends did our makeup. The room we were in didn't have a mirror, so I only got a look at myself after all of the bridesmaids had been made up. When I saw myself, I looked terrifying. I had raccoon eyes, cakey foundation, and exaggerated eyebrows. The whole look was just awful.

It was weird because the rest of the bridesmaids looked fine. It's as if the bride wanted to make sure that her groom (who was still technically my ex) didn't get any second ideas about me.

I'm Actually Stunned This Wedding Still Happened

I was a drag queen bridesmaid at a gay wedding for my transgender friend and his groom, who is a gay man. An hour before the ceremony, the groom decided to announce he was bisexual and that he would prefer my transgender friend wear a dress instead of a tux.

Mirror

I had to give my friend my dress and I was forced to wear his tux. It was a disaster. The tux didn't match my makeup and wig, and all the photos of me were terrible.

Here's An Idea: Don't Talk To Her Anymore

A college friend asked me to sing as part of a choir at her wedding. I agreed, but then my father became really ill and was put in the hospital two days before her wedding. I had to apologize last minute for not coming because of a family emergency.

Pretty Girls Sweat

Because of that, she never spoke to me again. I heard through mutual friends that she will never forgive me for promising to go to her wedding and then not showing up. Even though I explained the situation with my dad to her, she didn't care.

Every time I see her I am super nice to her, but she doesn't talk to me.

A Forky Situation

The bride got a little too tipsy at the reception and stabbed her soon-to-be husband in the hand with a salad fork.

At Least They Changed The Date

I had to deal with a bridezilla couple. My brother and his fiance planned to have their wedding during the middle of my exams. I wanted to ask them to reschedule because it would be impossible for me to make the wedding or even the rehearsal dinner.

Pinterest

We all had dinner one night and I gently brought up the issue. The fiance ran off to the bathroom and started crying. My brother told me that they didn't want to change the date because God told them to get married that day.

But eventually, they did. I'm a bridesmaid and I'm expecting drama.

Your Bridesmaid Duties Include Choreography

I was forced to learn multiple songs and DANCES for the wedding. Videos of my embarrassing performances circulated Facebook. They got divorced eight months later, so it all ended up being for nothing.

Can't Forget About Those Controlling Mother-In-Laws

My friend was getting married and her mother-in-law wanted her to arrive at the venue with a red carpet rolled out and little boys playing trumpets. My friend told her that she didn't want any little boys with trumpets. When she entered the venue to walk down the aisle, she discovered her mother-in-law had secretly organized a troupe of little boys with trumpets to play when she walked in.

This Bride Needed A Valium

The bride wasvery demanding. It was either her way or the highway. The closer the wedding got, the more she freaked out about everything — the bridesmaid dresses, their makeup, their choice of shoes, and so on.

This And That Photography

A few hours before the ceremony, she started tearing apart the groomsmen's boutonnieres because they had yellow roses. She said she "didn't sign up for a Mexican wedding."

Someone calmed her down, gave her a Valium, and the rest of the day went fine.

Just Add It To The Maid Of Honor's Tab

My friend had asked me to be her maid of honor and I accepted. I didn't know much about weddings at the time and I wasn't planning to have one anytime soon, so I asked her about what the maid of honor was responsible for in the entire scheme of things. She ended up telling me that the maid of honor paid for everything.

The wedding never happened because she ended up getting pregnant and she didn't want to get married in that state. She and her fiance eventually went to a courthouse to seal the deal.

I Didn't Know Target Sold Wedding Dresses

My wife was a bridesmaid at her cousin's wedding. Although the wedding was incredibly cheap, the bride got mad because she wanted all the bridesmaids to wear these expensive dresses.

Ironically, she herself was wearing a dress from Target.

She Had No Tears Left To Cry

So much crying. Crying over the flowers not being the exact shade of pink, crying over the autumn leaves blowing in the hall, crying over the smell inside the rental car, crying over her mom not wearing the shoes she had picked out. Oh! And crying because everyone stayed at the reception after she and the groom left.

Bridezillas Really Are The Most Terrifying

I was a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding. I had to make sure all my tattoos were covered and my dyed blonde hair was perfect to her standards. It took me a year to achieve her perfect hair standards.

On the day of the wedding, her wedding planner confided to me that my sister was terrifying and the most demanding of all the brides she had ever worked with.

Birthday Bridezilla

I'm a bridesmaid in my BFF's wedding next year. She knowingly scheduled her wedding on my 30th birthday, so I won't get to celebrate. Not a huge deal but a little annoying.

Two Types Of Brides

One bride talked about how a huge blizzard hit her reception, so they just partied all night. The band and wait staff were stuck too but were able to enjoy festivities rather than work all night.

In sharp contrast, there was another bride who was still in therapy TWO YEARS after her wedding because it was "ruined" by a rainstorm.

No Sympathy

She said my dad "had the audacity to die six weeks before her wedding." She genuinely could not understand how my dad's passing could supersede her wedding in my list of priorities.

You're Not Allowed To Be Skinnier Than Me

Between the time I agreed to be a bridesmaid and a couple of months before the wedding I had lost some weight. She got super mad at me because she wanted to be the skinny one on the stage. I ended up getting thrown out of her wedding party.

Hair Demands

My mom was the bride. She didn't have bridesmaids but I was going to walk her down the aisle.

The Knot

I've had purple hair for quite some time, and I checked every few months with my mom to make sure she was okay with that. She told me to stop insinuating that she was a bridezilla.

Two weeks before the wedding, my own mother threatened to uninvite me from the wedding if I didn't fix my hair. So I went and got it done, came home and my mother told me I was shallow for changing my hair to keep up appearances. Sigh.

A Wedding Dress In Shreds

The bride had walked out with her entire bridal party, except her maid of honor. The bride had ripped her dress from the neck down, in an open area, because it was too white, despite the fact that it was the dress she had insisted the maid of honor wear that day.

My best friend of 10 years got engaged while she was six months pregnant and decided to have a child before the wedding. I was happy for her but also warned her that planning a wedding while taking care of a child could take a mental and financial toll on her.

Boy did it ever. All I can say is hormones and weddings don't mix.

We rarely talk now and I couldn't be happier.

Stop Flirting With My Guests

I was at a wedding once where one of the bridesmaids punched the bride and told everyone about her drinking habits. She had been irritated because the bride told her to stop flirting with the married men at the wedding, even though she wasn't.

The Ungrateful Bride-To-Be

The bride arrived at her bachelorette party an hour late, clearly a little too tipsy. Her bridal party had spent months organizing the party for her.

wedo

The bride kept screaming at all her bridesmaids, "I waited so long and THIS IS IT?!" The wedding that followed was as awkward as could be.

A Master Plan

When I get married (second go-round, no date set yet) it will be in the backyard and we'll have a potluck. None of the bridezilla drama.
