My partner and I want to spend a few weeks in LA this winter to get away from the cold. We'll take a car, just I'd really similar to be in a rubber expanse within walking distance to the beach and at least a few restaurants. I've narrowed my search down to two options: 1) A 1 bedroom apartment in Santa Monica near Wilshire & 4th for $235/night. I don't know much about either location, and so I could utilise help deciding. As far as I can tell, pros for the SM place are the quiet street and walkability to tons of things in SM. The cons are the price and the lack of a second sleeping accommodation for friends who might want to come along. The pros for the LB identify are an body of water view, extra sleeping accommodation, and depression price. The cons seem to exist less to walk to and the living space faces Ocean Ave, which I would assume is pretty noisy. Am I missing anything? Is this part of Long Beach rubber? I'thousand assuming information technology's also not the kind of place where my partner and I need to be afraid of whatsoever homophobes trying to beat us up, only if someone could confirm that, I'd capeesh it. Besides, is there parking a the Long Beach light rail stations if I want to ride it to downtown? Thank you! |

One more thing...should the poor air quality in Long Embankment impact my decision? I've read plenty of bad things about it, but I'm not sure how big a factor it should exist to someone only staying for two weeks or so. |

Likewise, is at that place parking a the Long Beach low-cal rail stations if I desire to ride it to downtown? Thanks! riding the blueline to downtown and back..lol...y'all're brave. Don't exercise it at night. Only bulldoze Santa Monica will put u closer to mode more spots. (edit: saw that you take a motorcar)...no brainer |

I like Long Embankment. if your budget is being stretched it'south fine. I mean you accept a car and free time so you tin can drive to the hot spots in LA. likewise the beaches are less crowded |

I've read plenty of bad things nearly it, only I'm not sure how large a factor it should be to someone only staying for two weeks or so. I'd worry about the air quality if I were contemplating an extended stay near the not bad plants , otherwise you should be fine. The office of LB y'all are considering is one of the safest areas in boondocks. My ain, beloved little niece lives non far away. It'due south difficult to guess what you lot and your friend will be doing then I will make some assumptions. Santa Monica is very tolerant, of everything. Nearly to a fault. LBGTG, directly, rich, poor . . . kinda tough to get past if you are a straight, white guy but otherwise, you're golden. But . . . same with LB. As a matter of fact, in that location are a bunch of GF nightspots not far west of Redondo and Body of water. Dining out and nightlife prices should be pretty comparable. The SM spot is a fiddling more urban and has a lot more places to consume and drink within walking distance simply again, the LB spot isn't far from Broadway or Belmont Shore, or even the downtown scene. If yous are planning day trips to places like Laguna Beach or other OC spots, the LB location will save you a ton of grief traffic wise and destinations n and west aren't all that remote from LB. If yous have a car, I'd say stay Long Embankment and spend the extra $100 a twenty-four hour period on fun. If you are using public transportation, information technology is probably a toss upwardly. (I would echo the point on taking the blue line at night. Plenty safe during the twenty-four hour period only occasionally some, with bad intentions, climb on betwixt Pershing Square and PCH and human action out their anger. Simply sayin.) LB, equally is the instance in about coastal areas, has good rapid transit |

I'm from Long Beach so this is a bit biased just offset a few questions. What is the primary reason for the visit? but for sunshine? where are yous from? do yous want civilization shock? Does SD for a twenty-four hours sound practiced? My selection would be Long Beach. It'southward a smaller town feel compared to SM. A lot less touristy. Yous would basically be right in the middle of LA and Orange Canton. About a 30 min bulldoze to Hunington Embankment, a 35-40 min drive to Downtown LA, a petty less than an 60 minutes drive to SM and a ii hour drive to San Diego. In Long Embankment the beach water quality isn't as bad anymore but there is a break water that prevents any blazon of waves. There are a few bays where y'all can hire kayaks and just go floating around meg dollar homes (naples). There is 2nd street which is a neat place to walk, encounter and eat. You lot have 4th street which is habitation to retro row ( thrift stores and the like). There is the barefaced where you can stroll along, run along, bike a long to a nice ocean breeze. There is downtown Long Beach which isn't too bad; there are but really a few blocks that would be of interest. Seal Beach is about a 10-xv min drive from where you will stay. five more minutes downward yous have Sunset beach and 10 mins from there you take Hunington Beach/Middle Processed Beach! I can't comment to much well-nigh SM equally I barely visit. But in that location are smashing things up there too. Everything will be driving distance but since you will take a auto that wouldn't be much of a trouble. But if your stay is longer than a week... Why not split upwardly the stay? Commencement part in Long Beach, fit in a mean solar day trip to SD, enjoy LB/OC. second function in SM, become see venice, the getty, the griffith observatory. That would exist your best bet. That would requite you much more things to do and make it much more user-friendly. |

Santa Monica. Much nicer than LB, cleaner and safer. Groovy location, shut to everything, lots to do and fantastic beaches (northern Santa Monica/Will Rogers and Malibu) |
